The Parish Pastoral Council

Kate Kirkland

Chair
Kate Kirkland

Originally from the north of England, Kate first became a parishioner in 1973. Although she moved to Central London in 1999, in 2001 she relocated to Putney and started to worship again at the Sacred Heart. She has a part-time portfolio career lecturing on a Masters course in charity management, acting as Clerk to the Trustees of two charities, and undertaking consultancy work on charity governance and management. She has two adult daughters and two much beloved grandchildren.

Within the parish community, over the years she has helped at times with the First Communion Programme, the Transport to Sunday Mass, the Christmas Lunch and the SVP. She has a keen interest in the Church’s social teaching and in overseas development issues. She was a Trustee of Oxfam for nine years and is a CAFOD campaigner.

Faye McGillian

Secretary
Faye McGillian

Faye grew up in Croydon and first visited Sacred Heart as a 16 year old for a relative’s baptism. She was so bowled over by the beauty of the church that she thought; ‘If I ever get married, I want to get married here.’

Faye did get married here, (to David) and they now have two children, both at Sacred Heart Primary School. She and David are both accountants.

Faye loves meeting new people and so joined the Parish Pastoral Council partly to widen her parish circle. She has made some great friends in the process, and particularly enjoys one aspect of the role of Secretary – providing refreshments each month in the form of cake.

Chris Woodward

Finance Commitee Chair

Chris Woodward

Christopher Woodward has lived in the parish since 1969 bringing up a family of two daughters and a son with his late wife Patricia. The children attended Hollymount Primary, St Catherine’s Middle School and the Ursuline High and Wimbledon College.

Having taught in two large London comprehensive schools, he then moved over to education management in the London Boroughs of Ealing and then Sutton.
The family have been involved in parish life over the years but Chris became increasingly so having taken early retirement and then following the death of his wife. He was on the initial steering group for the first Parish Pastoral Plan and chaired the co-ordinating group overseeing its implementation.

He is currently chair of the Parish Finance Committee having served on the Parish Pastoral Council for over six years. He is involved in the local SVP conference, the Soup Run, the Friendship Group, Social Club but cherishes most the privilege of taking the Blessed Sacrament to the housebound as a Eucharistic Minister.

Raja Gomez

Council Member

Raja Gomez

Raja is a Sri Lankan/British citizen who has been a parishioner since being appointed to the London-based Commonwealth Secretariat in 1976. His travels as a Commonwealth diplomat have among other things allowed him to see at first hand the workings of the Catholic Church in some 80 countries.

He is married to Rosanne – they have two daughters and four grandchildren. Now retired from formal work, Raja joined the Parish Pastoral Council in October 2012. He has been at different times Director of the Commonwealth Youth Programme and of the Commonwealth’s Management Development Programme, experience he used when he served from 2005 to 2010 on the advisory group for the then newly set up Sacred Heart Youth Ministry.

Raja has several volunteer interests outside the Parish – these have included working with the homeless in organisations such as the Emmaus movement where he has been national Treasurer and a Trustee of the Greenwich Community.

Sr Dorothy Perrott

Parish Team Rep
Sr Dorothy Perrott

I am an Ursuline Sister and have been in Wimbledon since 1981. I enjoyed a full teaching career working in our schools in Essex, East London and finally here in Wimbledon at the Ursuline Preparatory School. During my years in school I was known as Sister Brendan but reverted to my baptismal name of Dorothy on my retirement. I answer to both!

In September 2000 when the parish team was established comprising the priests of the parish, religious and lay people working together I became one of the team and took on a full time post in the parish.

Over the last 14 years I have had numerous responsibilities mostly with regard to sacramental preparation. My chief interest currently is with the R.C.I.A., Marriage preparation days, parish visiting and being among the people.
